This festival is celebrated in India and Nepal by the women of Mithilanchal and their of all casts. This festival mainly performed on Ashwin Krishna Ashtmi usually during the time of pardosh. As it is a three long day festival and celebrated for the whole three days. It is from the seventh to ninth lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashwin month.

It is also known as Jitiya and it is mainly celebrated in Northern, States. And it all rituals are celebrated at riverbanks of Ganga other than Nepal. It is also celebrated in other states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. It is celebrated by mothers who have sons and it is also celebrated by those who have newly married want the baby. So, it says that who is wishing for a baby can do this fast. And this festival is mainly the relationship of mother and children. 

Mothers do the vrat for the well-being of their children. As on this day mothers offered the mustard oil and Khilli to the female ancestors and lord Jimutvahana. And mothers also give bangles and curd to the eagle and siyarin on this day. And there is one Othgan Vidhi in which mothers can take bath after the sunrise of the Jivitputrika.

On this day mothers do Nirjala fast for 33 hours. As this is celebrated for three days, on the first day women wake up early in the morning, and take bath and have some food, and then whole days and next day women don’t eat any food or drink water as it is also called Khur Jitiya. And on the last day, they end up with Paaran, which is the first food of the day. And on this day the dishes are made such as Jhor Bhaat, Noni ka saag, and Madua ki roti are made. 

The fast get completed after the sunrise of the Navami. As this fast made the long life of the sons, daughters, and also of the full family members. As in this there is a faith of full dedication and faith for the long life of son and also the other family members. As it also says that as many mothers do the fast for their children so their children got escaped from the severe accidents. As women believe too much in this fast.
