In India, the central government has launched an economic measure for the economically backward people of our country.
That economic measure is called BPL. The word BPL means the section that is below the poverty line index in India.
The government of India measured the BPL through the average income spent by a rural or urban person in India.
An individual person who spends Rs. 33.3 a day in urban areas and Rs. 27.2 a day in rural areas are living below the poverty line.
This measure is different for the urban and rural people because the needs and requirements of both are different from each other.
With the help of BPL identification the government can easily provide the financial help to the economically weaker section of the society.
The government launches various schemes to help the BPL section so that their basic needs like food, shelter and clothes could be fulfilled.

The Government uses various parameters to identify the below poverty line (BPL) sections.
For the digitalizing the population of the state of Jharkhand, the state government of Jharkhand has provided a new facility.
Under this facility the people of Jharkhand can see their names in the ration card list online.
The ration card is a mandatory documents required by almost all the citizens of the country. Every person either poor or rich has had the ration card.
The ration card is helpful to all the people in getting the required goods for usage. The government has provided a special facility to the BPL ration card owners.
The BPL ration card owners can get the food grains and the other required items of the household at very lower prices.
The prices quoted are much below the actual price of the goods. These goods are provided with the sole purpose of fulfillment of the basic needs of all the people of the state.
Jharkhand BPL Benefits
- The BPL card holder in Jharkhand will get an insurance of rupees two lakhs under the new medical scheme launched by the government. But this insurance scheme will only be applied for the treatment of serious diseases. In addition to this insurance, an insurance of rupees fifty thousand will be provided for the treatment of common diseases.
- The government has also announced that a BPL card holder family, if earning only seventy two thousand per annum will get the dialysis treatment for free in the state.
- All the ration card holders in Jharkhand will be eligible for Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana and Mukhyamantri Sukanya Yojana. There are three categories of ration card holders under NFSA (National Food Security Act) and all of them will be eligible for benefits under the two welfare schemes.
- The Jharkhand government started a new system of direct benefit transfer (DBT) in which BPL beneficiaries would get the amount in their account for purchase of food grains from the Public Distribution System (PDS) dealers.
